Choosing the perfect stroller is never easy when you have one child to think about. But, I do feel sorry for all those that have to find a way to transport three small children around. Double strollers are tricky enough but what types of stroller are there if you have triplets? What about those with three kids under the age of 5 that all need to head out together?

Now, I need to be honest here from the start and say that there aren’t that many strollers out there designed as designated triplet strollers. That is why I have included a bit more of a versatile mix of products to help you make the right choice. There are triplet strollers, doubles with the capacity for a third child, wagons and a couple of quads to finish things off.

What Features Should You Look Out For When Choosing A Triple Stroller For Your Family?

I am going to talk a little more about the different styles as we get to them. For now, I want to discuss some of the different considerations for three-child strollers more generally.

The ease of steering.

Maneuverability is a real pain with triple strollers because of their size. But, you can make things easier for yourself by choosing something with large swivel wheels and a sturdy frame. Check user reviews to see if anyone has had a problem with the product tipping or wobbling. Also, check for comments about the quality of the frame and general durability.

The comfort features for the children.

Whatever style of stroller you end up choosing, you need to be sure that every child is comfortable. This means ensuring that each seat has the right padding, harnesses, and the right dimensions. Is there enough space for them to recline at all or will they feel crammed together? If you choose a double stroller with a ride-along function, make sure there is enough room for them and a comfortable handle.

Convenient features for you.

You shouldn’t have to give up on all of the convenient features that you enjoyed with a single or double stroller. You should still be able to store anything you need under a seat or in an accessible pocket. The stroller should also be easy to assemble and have a comfortable ergonomic handlebar at the right height.

Adaptability to suit different needs and growing children.

If you have triplets, how long will this stroller last before they all outgrow it? Are the seats large enough for them to grow into it for a couple of years? If you have three young children of different ages, what is the limit on that age range? Can you have a car seat with a young baby and still have a toddler riding along? Look at the scope for adaptations to see if this is a short-term solution or a long-term investment.

Storage and transportation.

Storage is always an issue with strollers because so few have a helpful folding mechanism or compact shape. This is a bigger concern with these bulky strollers for triplets. Look at the dimensions of the collapsed stroller to see how well it will fit in a storage closet or the boot of a car. If you choose one of the wagons, is it collapsible and easily transported to the park?

The cost.

Always work within your family’s budget just in case there is a fault or one child ends up hating the stroller. Also, don’t go too cheap and risk something that isn’t reliable or sturdy enough. If the price is too good to be true then double-check the specification. There are some cheap and beautiful strollers out there for dolls that do a better job of providing an in-line stroller for triplets than some other brands. Why can’t we have pink polka dots and pretty canopies on the “real” strollers?

9 Best Triple Strollers

1:Foundations The Trio Sport Sport Triple Tandem Stroller

This stroller does things differently by creating a much more narrow stroller to help parents and placing the seats in a line. In-line strollers have their pros and cons on a general level because you may have some dispute over who gets to sit in the front or the back. Some also have slight differences between the seats that may determine who goes where. Here, each seat has the same weight capacity and there is a recline feature on the front and back, but not the middle.

I also like the fact that each seat has its own canopy so there is great customization here. The child in the back isn’t going to feel shut off from the outside world just so the one at the front can get some shade. They all get a decent view. There is also the use of heavy-duty foam wheels and shock absorption for a more comfortable ride.

However, foundations trio sport tandem stroller is a bit short on storage and there aren’t many cup holders. There are also some issues with weight distribution and balancing this longer stroller. This can lead to doubts over the security of younger children.

The pros and cons of this triple stroller.

[i2pc][i2pros]Easier to steer with the in-line design than the side by side
Individual canopies this time
Tough shock-absorbing wheels[/i2pros][i2cons]The lack of storage options
The middle seat doesn’t recline[/i2cons][/i2pc]

Is this the right stroller for you?

This can be a more convenient option for parents of young triplets and there are some nice features if you can overlook the lack of storage.

2:Child Craft Sport Multi-Child Triple Stroller

On first impressions, this looks very similar to the option above with the same approach to the seats and individual canopies. There are hopes here that this version is a little more user-friendly as there seems to be more storage underneath but there still aren’t trays. There is also a safe break system and the promise of a simple folding mechanism.

A stand-out feature for me here is the stadium seating. This means that there is a slight change in height as the seats go back to improve visibility for each child. I like this because the child at the back is less likely to feel crammed in and being taller may cancel out the benefits of being at the front.

The biggest problem is the braking system. Some find it far too difficult to use as it requires too much continual pressure. They felt they were fighting against the back wheels. Some removed the system altogether to get around this but I don’t know if this is the best idea.

The pros and cons of this triple stroller.

[i2pc][i2pros]The stadium seating
The individual canopies
The focus on safety[/i2pros][i2cons]The brake mechanism is too tough
A little more storage underneath but not much elsewhere[/i2cons][/i2pc]

Is this the right stroller for you?

This is a brilliant option for parents that want equal visibility for all three triplets and a product with a lot of consideration for the child. But, it is not going to work for those that lack arm strength.

3: The Trio+ (Zoe XL3)

Then there is this option that basically takes the idea of a side-by-side double stroller and places another seat in front of it. This could be a way of compromising so that there aren’t the same issues with width and length.

If you read my guide to double strollers then you will have seen Zoe’s “The Twin”. This is its larger cousin. One thing that is interesting about this product is the adaptability. All you need to do here is take the front seat off for it to become a double stroller or add a seat for a quad. It is customizable for different situations and built to be easy to assemble. I also notice that this is Disney-approved, which is something that you don’t expect from a triple stroller. There are also some nice color choices available.

Yet, there are some concerns about the longevity of the parts and connections. Some parents feel that the continual motion of connecting, disconnecting, and moving the seats will weaken the attachment points. There are also those that feel that the frame isn’t as heavy-duty as other strollers.

The pros and cons of this triple stroller.

[i2pc][i2pros]The different configurations for the seats.
The color choices available
The simple assembly process[/i2pros][i2cons]Potential weakness in the attachment points
The longevity of the frame[/i2cons][/i2pc]

Is this the right stroller for you?

This can be a great choice for any parents that need something that is truly customizable for triplets and other very small children. Just don’t expect it to last forever.

An alternative approach with these three-child strollers is to get a double stroller that is adaptable for a third child. This might be the better option if you have three children of differing ages rather than three triplets.

You can get the comfort and security of a double stroller with a ride-along solution for an older child.

I chose this model first because everything you need is already included in the product. Buy it, assemble it and use it as you need to straight away. This model has two seats, one being quite a bit higher than the other, and a standing platform that is already fixed to the stroller. Both seats have reclining functions, footrests, and trays. One feature that I wasn’t expecting to see was the rear bench seat. This gives this stroller more versatility than products with just the attachable baseboard.

The problem here is that this is really big, even though there are concerns about older children feeling cramped in the back. It doesn’t fold down into a compact, stable shape for storage and can be difficult to turn.

The pros and cons of this triple stroller.

[i2pc][i2pros]The built-in platform with its own seat
The different heights on the two normal seats
The ease of assembly for parents[/i2pros][i2cons]The size of the product when collapsed
Some understandable steering issues[/i2cons][/i2pc]

Is this the right stroller for you?

If you need something suitable for children of different ages but don’t want to mess around with extra parts, this is one of the best triple strollers out there.

5:  2018 UPPAbaby Vista Stroller -Jordan

This one has a different approach with its pros and cons. It is more adaptable with extra parts. You can add on a rumble seat to make it suitable for two children and the piggyback standing board for three children. This means that you can configure the stroller to your needs for that day. It doesn’t always have to be a big, cumbersome triple stroller if you don’t have all the kids with you at that time. But, there is the scope to let all three take a ride if they need to.

I know that this stroller will attract interest because it is an “improved” model for 2018. There is a larger basket, a better design for the folding mechanism and it looks nice too.

But, there is still the common issue that this is difficult to carry around because of the size of the collapsed frame. There are also parents that notice the frame gets scratched up too easily. This is disappointing from something that is not the cheapest option.

The pros and cons of this triple stroller.

[i2pc][i2pros]A more customizable option
Improved features on previous generations of this stroller
Comfortable enough for kids of different ages[/i2pros][i2cons]Issues with the size
The durability of the frame[/i2cons][/i2pc]

Is this the right stroller for you?

This is ideal for parents that don’t want one kind of stroller all the time. This customization is perfect for regular use in larger families.

6:  Peg Perego Triplette Piroet Stroller

You may be looking at all these strollers and thinking that it all sounds too much like hard work. I hear you. I wouldn’t want to have to spend too long disputing the configurations of a stroller and still having to wrestle with its shape and mechanisms. I know that there would be one more outgoing child calling shotgun for the best seat all the time. So, I propose something different. What about a wagon instead? A wagon lets you wheel multiple children around with none of the same concerns about where they sit, assembling the frames and making lots of adjustments. Strap them in and off you go.

This model comes with infant car seats, “agile” front wheels, and has a large basket underneath. You can also get “normal” seats separately and add those in to give this greater lifespan. I also like that there is a suspension system and a free diaper bag for your money. That said, this is quite an expensive option.

Obviously, there are going to be some practical considerations with getting around in some busy or urban environments. This is very long and does have transportation issues. I also want to point out that the color “atmosphere” is a bit pretentious when it is just gray.

The pros and cons of this triple stroller

[i2pc][i2pros]The car seats for triplets to ride in the wagon
The suspension system
The free diaper bag[/i2pros][i2cons]The length makes it difficult to transport
The cost[/i2cons][/i2pc]

Is this the right stroller for you?

A recommendation here depends on your budget and needs. It is popular and well made for this purpose but is a niche product.

7:  wonderfold Baby Multi-Function Four Passenger Wagon Folding Quad Stroller

This next wagon is a bit different and perhaps a bit more fun because of the adaptability and design. Here there are high face-to-face seats that I really like because they create a more social situation for siblings and friends. There is also a more secure enclosure with the five-point harness on the seat, zipper door on high walls, and the removable canopy over the top.

This wagon could be more practical for parents because of features like the EVA foam tires, 8-inch wheels with suspension, and the shape. It is a bit more compact in a way and folds down nicely but it is still spacious for lots of children. It is also half the price of the one above because it doesn’t have car seats.

Parents warn new buyers to prepare to stop in the park/zoo/wherever to face questions as though you were a sales rep. This thing draws heads and people want to know all about it. There are some steering issues but nothing major.

The pros and cons of this triple stroller.

[i2pc][i2pros]The face to face social seating
The security features
The quality of the wheels[/i2pros][i2cons]Occasional issues with the steering
Users aren’t left in peace[/i2cons][/i2pc]

Is this the right stroller for you?

If a wagon is your preferred choice, you can’t go too wrong here. It is fun and protective and makes a statement – for better or worse.

8: Angeles Infant Toddler SureStop Folding Commercial Bye-Bye Stroller

The reason that I am ending this series with two quad strollers instead of other adaptable models is to offer a different approach. Adaptable double strollers are fine if you have young children of different ages and don’t take all three out together that often. However, they aren’t going to work if you have triplets. If you struggle to find a suitable model with seats of the same size and shape in a triple stroller, you might have to opt for a quad and have a seat leftover.

This model has a more heavy-duty feel with a boxy shape and the use of water-resistant fabric and a steel frame. I like that they have clearly tried to make parents’ lives easier with the three-step folding mechanism, the brake system, and the wheels.

Boxiness does, however, also mean bulkiness and this can feel too big for some parents. Others make a familiar complaint about a lack of storage. You get the basket at the bottom but no pouches or cup holders.

The pros and cons of this triple stroller.

[i2pc][i2pros]The sturdy feel of the frame
The steering
The comfortable seats[/i2pros][i2cons]Too big for everyone
Not much storage[/i2cons][/i2pc]

Is this the right stroller for you?

This is the sort of quad stroller you need if you want quality construction over clever or attractive designs. It can be more practical for the right family.

9: Foundations The Quad Sport 4-Passenger Stroller

This final option is the quad version of the Foundations Trio that I mentioned above. There were so many potential benefits there that it made sense to suggest this quad as an alternative. Again, there is a potential problem here in that one child will have to sit behind the other two and they may not yet have grasped the concept of taking it in turns.

I like that there is a lot of consideration for parents with the ease of access for putting children into the seats. This should be helpful when trying to set this up in tighter spaces. There are the benefits of access and visibility but it is still pretty secure. There is also the same secure harness on each seat and footrests and a rail at the front.

Unfortunately, this does mean that there are no footrests at the back and your kids’ feet will dangle into the storage basket. This isn’t ideal if you have groceries or fragile goods. There are also some parents that say it is wider than they expected for a quad.

The pros and cons of this triple stroller.

[i2pc][i2pros]The equal size of the seats
The ease of access
The security features[/i2pros][i2cons]The lack of footrests in the back
The width[/i2cons][/i2pc]

Is this the right stroller for you?

If you have three small children that can be a bit of a handful then this might be a better approach for keeping them safe and happy.

Choosing The Right Triple Stroller For Your Family.

While dedicated triplet strollers are rare, there are lots of options out there for parents with three small children. You just might need to think outside the box a little. Consider what each child needs to be comfortable and safe on your journeys and prioritize your choices based on those needs. Compare the specifications and user reviews to make sure you get the best stroller for triplets.
