One of the biggest concerns for any parent is that they won’t be able to hear their child’s cries or reach them in time when there is a problem. There is the fear that a standard baby monitor may go out of range if they go downstairs or into the garden. A long-range baby monitor could reduce that risk if you are going to travel a little further away from the nursery. You can get a device with a strong, secure connection between the transmitter and receiver for reliable alerts at all times. But, some products are better than others, so it helps to know what to look for.

Things to consider when buying the best long range baby monitor.

1) The range.

While this might sound like a pretty obvious consideration, you can’t just choose anything with the word long-range in the name. There are variations in range across different brands – and also in one product depending on its location. Look for the maximum range in open space. Ideally, this will be 1000ft and no less than 900ft.

2) The quality of the transmission.

Read the specification to see what type of connection you will get. Those that don’t rely on wireless technology are safer and can be pretty reliable. Look out for those that promise additional features for the clarity of the feed, such as noise cancellation and the reduction of white noise.

3) The portability of the device.

If you plan to take this device outside or around the home, is the receiver portable enough to do so? Some models have small, lightweight designs that are easy to carry and stand up on a table. Others might be a little bulkier with speakers facing the wrong way. Also, look to see if there is a belt clip for hands-free carrying.

4) The quality of the feeds.

Whatever the range, you still need a device that can provide a clear image and audio stream with enough focus. Look at the resolution of the display as well as its size. An extra inch can make a big difference. Also, check for night vision modes and the different angles and functions of the cameras. With the audio system, check reviews to see if the microphones are reliable.

5) The extra features onboard.

A long-range baby monitor should still be able to provide helpful alerts wherever you are in the house or the garden. Some will do so with a voice activation system, which can also save on battery life. Others will have features such as alarms and temperature monitors for extra peace of mind.

Whichever model you like the look of, make sure to read the specifications and user reviews carefully. Many appear to be quite similar on first impressions but will either have special quirks or hidden flaws that single them out. The following devices are some of the best long range baby monitors available right now.

8 Best Long Range Baby Monitors

1) Babynurs – Video Baby Monitor with Camera and Audio

The first option that I want to mention is the one with the longest range in this guide. At 1200ft, this is significantly more than the competition and means that there should be no problems in larger spaces and across two storeys. There is also the benefit of the HFSS private transmission technology and Antiinterference Technology. The latter should provide a clear feed with noise canceling and anti-interference for improved quality.

There are some other important visual features here with the 4.3 inch LCD color screen. The company highlights the fact that there is a 480*272 pixel resolution and a unique graphics chip. It is unclear what difference this chip makes to me, but those with experience with lesser monitors may see a difference. Other helpful features here are the ability to pan 310 degrees, tilt 100 degrees and use the two-way talkback system for easy communication. This includes the chance to play 4 lullabies.

The biggest issue here is the battery life on this product. The company promises that you will get 8 hours of use when it is on sleep mode and 6 hours when you have the screen on. Now, my basic math tells me that this isn’t necessarily going to last the night if there are problems and you need to get up a lot. There are also a lot of other models where 8 hours is the minimum for stand-by – and even some with 24 hours of use.

The pros and cons of this long-range baby monitor.

Pros
  • The impressive 1200ft range
  • The lack of interference in the signal
  • The quality of the image on the display
  • The two-way communication system
Cons
  • The short battery life

Is this a good fit for your nursery?

This is a fantastic option for those that want the longest possible range and lots of features – but only if you prepare to charge the batteries often.

2) Bubynurs Baby Monitor, 4.3” Video Baby Monitor

Because that Babynurs product is such a hit with that long range, I wanted to include another model from this brand. Here the range is shorter at 100ft, but still enough for most homes. There isn’t the same high-end transmission but you do get 2.4G fhss technology with private encryption.

One thing I really like about this option is the level of automation. The camera will automatically switch to the night vision mode whenever you turn out the light in the room. This means uninterrupted feeds. Also, there is the VOX voice activation when it detects the baby crying. The additions of the feeding time alert and baby room temperature finish the product off nicely.

This Babynurs camera isn’t without its faults, and I do want to point out a limitation that you should be aware of. Unlike most of the cameras in this guide, there isn’t the same motion in the pan, zoom or tilt. This means that you can’t use the receiver to move the camera for a better view or to zoom in as needed. The picture quality is still fair, but you might not get the same amount of customization as you would like.

The pros and cons of this long-range baby monitor.

Pros
  • A range over 1000ft long
  • Automation for ease of use
  • Decent quality to the audio and video
  • There are some great alerts on the receiver
Cons
  • You can’t move the camera remotely

Is this a good fit for your nursery?

If you are happy to have the same camera angle all the time, this could still prove to be a reliable option for many parents.

3) LBtech Video Baby Monitor with Two Digital Cameras

Moving onto a different brand, here we have another model with a 1000 ft range. Be aware that it says “in a straight line and open space”, so it will be less indoors. Still, the strong signal and 100% digital technology should mean a reliable and secure connection.

This is another model with an automatic night vision mode so you should have no worries about the device picking up images in the dark. There is also a 2x digital zoom so you can focus on whenever you need to, to check on your baby. The two-way communication system seems to be pretty reliable with the microphones on each unit and the voice activation mode. This VOX system is great for saving power too.

One potential issue here that I want to point out is that while there is the option to add multiple cameras – and a package that comes with two cameras ready to set up straight away – there isn’t a split-screen mode. Split-screen viewing can be helpful when dealing with multiple kids in different rooms. If you would like to learn more about these options for your child, you can check out my other guide on the best split-screen baby monitors. Here there is just the inconvenience of having to switch between feeds all the time.

The pros and cons of this long-range baby monitor.

Pros
  • There is a long, secure range of up to 1000ft
  • The video features with the night vision
  • The strong audio features with the two-way talkback
  • The voice activation to save some of the battery life
Cons
  • There is no split-screen for the multiple cameras

Is this a good fit for your nursery?

If you are happy to manually switch cameras, you should have few issues with the different features of this long-range model.

4) HelloBaby Video Baby Monitor with Camera and Audio

With this product, the range isn’t quite as long. In fact, 960ft may seem a little short compared to that option above. The reason that I have included this in my guide is because of this connection is still pretty reliable and there is the added benefit of the out-of-range warning. This is something I think should be more common on these devices.

Another thing I like about this system is that there are so many different options with the cameras. You can set them up on the table or wall-mounted for the best possible angle. Then there is the use of the zoom, 360 degree pan and 60 degree tilt for added customization. Finally, you can even add up to four cameras. Additional features of interest here include the voice activation system, alarms, and the LED indicators.

Unfortunately, there have been a few negative comments about the video quality on this device. Most seem to be happy with what they get, considering the long range on this system. But, others say that there isn’t the clarity that they expected. As with any camera, there is going to be a small risk of interference and the night vision mode will always be the weaker of the two features.

The pros and cons of this long-range baby monitor.

Pros
  • The long range out into the garden
  • The addition of the out-of-range warning
  • The different features on the cameras across the room
  • The alarms and indicators for increased peace of mind
Cons
  • Some rare complaints about the quality of the video feed

Is this a good fit for your nursery?

The video quality might not be the sharpest around but you still get a great product here with the range of features onboard. There is enough here to ensure peace of mind for long-term use.

5) ANMEATE Digital 2.4Ghz Wireless Video Monitor with Temperature Monitor

Again, the range on this model is shorter than some of the options above but still fair for a video monitor. It seems that users can still get a good image and sound across this range.

I choose this model because I wanted to bring in a different brand than you may have looked at before. You can still get a lot of the most important features in this wireless system. This includes the functionality of the cameras, where you can play with the digital zoom, pan, and tilt. There is again the option to expand to up to 4 cameras. Parents will also appreciate the two-way communication system on this device. There is the talkback microphone and also the chance to use one of 4 lullabies.

The biggest problem with this model is one that I have mentioned before. That is because it isn’t uncommon to see short battery lives on these products. Here you get 8 hours of use in eco mode. While this is more than the Babynurs model above, it still might not be enough for regular use.

The pros and cons of this long-range baby monitor

Pros
  • The range of 960ft
  • The chance to expand the system with up to four cameras
  • The two-way communication system with the lullabies as a bonus
  • The ease of use for most parents
Cons
  • The short battery life

Is this a good fit for your nursery?

This is one of the more basic models compared to some of the others in this guide as it has that shorter range and smaller specification. But, this does mean it is less complicated for first-time users.

6) Goodbaby Video Baby Monitor with Camera and Audio

This is one of the models where the range can vary greatly depending on your location. There is a maximum of 1000ft in any open space but this will decrease indoors. Still, the 2.4GHz Digital Wireless Transmission means that you should get a reliable feed between floors.

One of the interesting selling points that I noticed with this product is the use of the advanced and highsensitivity microphone and speaker. The idea is that this will provide a clearer two-way communication system for the talkback and the lullabies as well as more reliable arts on the VOX system. There is also an alarm system, night vision, and a temperature monitor.

One potential issue that I want to point out here is that some parents have struggled with the volume. Some say that the highest level is still too low if they aren’t close enough to the speaker. This isn’t great for those that are carrying out chores or have the receiver on a table nearby. On that note, there is also the warning that the speaker is on the back – not the front like other models – so it does need propping up to stop the sound becoming muffled and distorted.

The pros and cons of this long-range baby monitor.

Pros
  • The long maximum range of 1000ft
  • The secure transmission
  • The range of alarms and sensors to help you monitor your child
  • The high-sensitivity microphones
Cons
  • The lack of volume on the receiver

Is this a good fit for your nursery?

As long as you are careful with the volume, this system should provide plenty of helpful alerts and a good picture for remote monitoring.

7) VAVA 720P 5″ HD Display Video Baby Monitor with Camera and Audio

Check On Amazon

The range on this model is definitely the weakest in this guide. With anything a 480ft – 900ft range depending on your location. But, it is still suitable for outdoor use and I choose this model for its additional features.

This model has one of the best displays in this guide. There is a large 5” 720P system that the company promise is three times more detailed than previous monitors. This means a sharper, fuller image in daylight and in the night vision. This clarity continues with the 4X zoom and the auto-pilot panoramic mode. Another thing that impressed me with the battery life. Here there is a 4500mAh rechargeable battery that should last for 12hrs in display mode and 24hrs in stand-by

This is another product where users have had some issues with the volume controls. Some people say that the controls are hard to find and adjust. This is a shame because there are seven volume levels here. The highest should be enough to wake heavy sleepers and the lowest for those that only want to wake up when their baby is crying. Some parents don’t seem to be getting the most out of this.

The pros and cons of this long-range baby monitor.

Pros
  • The maximum range of 900ft outside
  • The long battery life – especially compared to some other monitors here
  • The size and quality of the display
  • The auto-pilot panoramic mode
Cons
  • The issues with the volume controls

Is this a good fit for your nursery?

If you can make the most of those volume settings you should find that this system is a great monitoring tool with that display and battery life.

8) VTech DM221 Audio Baby Monitor

Check On Amazon

For the last model in this guide, I wanted to highlight something a little different. There is no reason why you have to have a video baby monitor if you would prefer a long-range audio-only monitor. This model has a 1000ft range over open space and 160 ft indoors. All feeds carry over the DECT 6.0 system, which transmits a secure, encrypted signal while eliminating any white noise or interference.

I like that this is a hands-free system with the belt clip because this is so much more portable and convenient. There is also a helpful 5-level sound indicators on the device that provide a visual aid when you have the system muted.

Once again, the main issues with this product relate to the battery life. There is another short life on the receiver, which means that you may have to charge it up more often than intended. But, some wish that the transmitter has a battery backup. Instead, you have to keep it plugged into the mains and this could be a problem if there is ever a power cut.

The pros and cons of this long-range baby monitor.

Pros
  • The long range outdoors
  • The hands-free system
  • The visual sound indicator
  • The secure system
Cons
  • The lack of a battery back-up on the transmitter

Is this a good fit for your nursery?

If you need an audio-only device with a range for outdoor use, this is still a great choice because of the security and hands-free features.

Finding the best long range baby monitor for your child.

As you can see, there is a big difference in some of the ranges. You could go all out with a 1200ft option but there is no reason why a 100ft isn’t just as reliable at the right distance. The better the signal indoors, the better the reception. The better the tech, the smaller the chance of interference.

There are also some great models with slightly shorter ranges that have lots of other helpful features. Look at all the features and pros and cons carefully. Don’t fixate too much on the range and compromise on the other necessary elements. Compare your best options and find the solution that works for you and your home.
